Al-Birr Project
Inspiration
Al Birr project comes from the arabic word meaning righteousness which is inspired by Ayat Al-Birr in Surah Baqarah:
“It is not righteousness that you turn your faces towards the East and the West, but righteousness is the one who believes in Allah and the last day and the angels and the Book and the prophets, and gives away wealth out of love for Him to the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and the beggars and for (the emancipation of) the captives, and keeps up prayer and pays the zakat, and the performers of their promise when they make a promise, and the patient in distress and affliction and in time of conflict - these are they who are true and these are they who are the pious” (2:177)
Purpose
Our sadaqah project aimed towards helping those who are in need through charitable donations and volunteerism.
The Birr project will entail collecting sadaqah and zakat, essential resources (food, clothes, household items, etc), and distributing them to the less fortunate in the DFW area. Allah SWT encourages us to give, despite our love of wealth. He encourages us to be generous to the orphans, the poor, and the travelers who have no means and/or support. Allah SWT instructs us to give to those who ask and by the permission of Allah, Al Birr project will give to all of the aforementioned categories and then some in an effort to strengthen the community.
Goal
The Birr project is geared towards fulfilling the aspect of charity, giving, and generosity in our religion. As our Prophet ﷺ said:
لَيْسَ الْمُؤْمِنُ الَّذِي يَشْبَعُ وَجَارُهُ جَائِعٌ
"He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while his neighbor goes hungry."
